Student of “Ten-year Excellent Doctorate Program” Gave a Plenary Lecture in the World Ophthalmology Congress

The 36th World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) was held in Barcelona, Spain from June 16 to June 19, 2018. This is the world's largest ophthalmology conference, which was first held in 1857, and is also the oldest and the longest continuous international medical meeting. This year more than 10,000 delegates from 146 countries around the world attended the conference. Jieli Wu, a student of “Ten-year Excellent Doctorate Program” of Xiamen University, gave a plenary lecture titled “Topical Application of Paeonol Ameliorates Inflammatory Response in Experimental Dry Eye Model via Modulating NF-κB Pathway” in the conference.


In the ten-minute lecture for each speaker, Wu comprehensively introduced their discoveries and attracted a lot of interest from all the colleagues at home and abroad. Wu's report was not only highly praised by experts and scholars, but also featured by the WOC conference newspaper. Her lecture was also the only one from China reported by the WOC conference. Moreover, another research paper by Jieli Wu and Zhaolin Liu, was also exhibited in the poster section.


The College tries to pilot the ten-year excellent doctorate program that involves bachelor, master and doctoral studies by selecting outstanding students since 2011. It is aimed to cultivate well-rounded clinicians and medical scientists with broad knowledge of humanities and sciences, solid medical theories, competent clinical skills and research abilities. At the same time, they should have abilities of dialectical thinking, self-enlightening, and innovation, be devoted to healthcare for human being. Graduates should reach the level of attending doctors and research assistants.

The research papers of the students from ten-year excellent doctorate program were presented at the world high-level academic conference, which marked the remarkable results of Reform of the training mode of top-notch innovative medical talents.
